The council resolution, adopted unanimously Monday by its 15 members, extended the U.N.’s political mission in Afghanistan known as UNAMA until March 17, 2026. The Taliban seized power in 2021 as United States and NATO forces withdrew following two decades of war. No country officially recognizes them as Afghanistan’s government because of their crackdown on women.

He said Ashley Biden has 13 agents assigned to her detail and that she too “will be taken off the list." Former presidents and their spouses receive life-long Secret Service protection under federal law, but the protection afforded to their immediate families over the age of 16 ends when they leave office.

A federal judge in New York has granted the attorneys of a Russian woman permission to issue subpoenas to access the financial records of Antigua and Barbuda’s prime minister and other officials involved in the sale of a megayacht that her father had abandoned. The attorneys must first notify Prime Minister Gaston Browne and others before serving subpoenas on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the U.S.-based Clearing House Payments Company. Browne did not immediately respond to a message for comment. Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov claims she is the rightful owner of the megayacht. It remained anchored off Antigua for a couple months before the government sold it.

The top federal prosecutor for the nation’s capital, who promoted President Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was rigged, has formed a “special unit” to investigate election offenses, according to an email sent to lawyers in his office. Interim District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Ed Martin said the “Special Unit: Election Accountability” has already opened one investigation and that it “will continue to make sure that all the election laws of our nation are obeyed,” according to the email reviewed by The Associated Press. Martin was involved in the “Stop the Steal” movement animated by lies about fraud after Trump lost the 2020 election to former President Joe Biden.

The Atlanta Falcons bolstered their defensive line depth by signing Morgan Fox to a two-year contract. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced that a Houston-area midwife has been arrested and accused of providing illegal abortions, marking the first time authorities have filed criminal charges under the state’s near-total abortion ban. Maria Margarita Rojas has been charged with the illegal performance of an abortion, a second-degree felony, as well as practicing medicine without a license. Paxton alleges that Rojas illegally operated at least three clinics where illegal abortion procedures were performed. Waller County court records show Rojas was arrested on March 6 and was released on bond the next day. Court records did not list an attorney for Rojas who could speak on her behalf.

A 24-year-old airman has been charged with killing a Native American woman who went missing in South Dakota about seven months ago. Twenty-four-year-old Quinterius Chappelle is charged with second-degree murder and made his first court appearance Monday. The body of 21-year-old Sahela Sangrait was found earlier this month. Sangrait was reported missing in August. Authorities say she is believed to have been killed on the Ellsworth Air Force Base in western South Dakota, where Chappelle was serving as an active-duty airman. He is being held at Pennington County Jail, and a woman who answered the phone at the federal defender's office declined to comment on his behalf.
